Nevis enjoys ease of travel and communications. ?It is 225 miles southeast of Puerto Rico. ?Thus, it is much closer for U.S. residents than the Cook Islands, another jurisdiction that traditionally favors asset protection trusts, but which is located in the South Pacific. ?Nevis is on the same time zone as the eastern United States, and trust companies and banks are the major industry in Nevis. ?At one time, sugar cane was the major industry in Nevis, but today the major businesses there are in the financial services business, and, of course, tourism.
